Theatres of Operations
Where your fleet can fight, from behind the Moon down to the treetops. Each theatre is a set of fixed places, linked by jumps.
Deep space: the Moon and L1Three points 10,000 km above the Moon and Earth–Moon L1, the one gateway to Earth. Each is a circle of play 800 km across.
Geostationary orbitThree points 35,786 km above the equator, 120° apart, that together see the whole globe except the poles. The crossroads between Earth and the Moon.
Low Earth orbitTwo points 400 km up, over Sumatra and over Ecuador, on opposite sides of the globe. The last step before the atmosphere.
AtmosphereTwo areas over Sumatra and Bangkok, 200 km across, flown in four height bands from 25 km down to 300 m over the ground. The game starts here.
Places →
Bukittinggi, 25 km upBukittinggi in West Sumatra was Hostile Flagship's first surface area: NASA height maps, generated ridges, haze, a thin cloud sheet, forest and a generated town.
BangkokThe game starts over Bangkok: a 200 km area on the Chao Phraya plain, with forest where the map shows forest, rivers sized by their flow, and a generated city.
Terrain Features →
Hills and mountainsThe shape of the ground comes from NASA's height map, curved with the Earth, with generated ridges for the detail the map lacks.
ForestRainforest grows only where the satellite map shows forest, and fills a whole area 200 km across, drawn as clumps of trees about 100 m wide.
RiversRivers drawn from river data, each as wide as its flow, running on to the sea. Nothing lands, grows or is built on them.
TownsTowns are generated, not mapped: streets, shophouses, a dense core and a few towers. Ships cannot land in a town or its fringe.
SeaThe sea comes from the satellite map: clear blue counts as water for the ground, the trees and landing alike.
