One Mark up is worth five: the Mark ladder
Published
In short: every fighting thing has a Mark, Mk0 to Mk3. Each step up is huge: one Mark up is worth about five below, two up about thirty, and three up is untouchable.

At a glance
| Mark | Accuracy | Evasion | Power | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mk0 | 45 % | 0 % | ½ | 50 % |
| Mk1 | 60 % | 5 % | 1 | 60 % |
| Mk2 | 75 % | 30 % | 2 | 80 % |
| Mk3 | 90 % | 70 % | 4 | 100 % |
How it works
- A hit is a roll: the shooter’s accuracy minus the target’s evasion, never below 1 % or above 99 %.
- Who has a Mark: a small craft has one for the whole craft; a big ship has one for its hull and one for each turret.
- Equals both bleed. Two Mk3s fighting both take heavy losses. Against a lower Mark, what runs out first is ammunition, not luck.
