Four heights instead of free flight: height bands
Published
In short: in a planet’s air you don’t steer up and down. Orders stay on a flat map, and each ship flies one of four heights. Lower is closer to the action, and more dangerous.

At a glance
| Band | Height | Key |
|---|---|---|
| Top | 25 km, where ships arrive | Shift+1 |
| High | 15 km | Shift+2 |
| Med | 5 km | Shift+3 |
| Low | 300 m over the ground | Shift+4 |
| Land | on the ground | Shift+5 |
How it works
- Low hugs the ground, looking up to 6 seconds ahead so it climbs early for a ridge.
- A group changes band together, at its slowest ship’s climb.
- Changing band is a commitment: it counts as moving.
- Land almost anywhere: press and drag to set the facing. The footprint turns red if the spot is too steep, on water, in a town or on another ship.
- Jumps leave only from Top.
